Entering therapy is a profound act of self-love and courage. Perhaps you have felt lonely, dissatisfied, confused, or devalued in your relationships. Perhaps you are becoming increasingly aware of feeling depressed, anxious, or indecisive. Whether you are seeking relief, support, or healing, if you are reading this, there is a resilient, healthy part of you ready for change. However you may be looking to change your life circumstances, I am interested in working with you as you reach your goals.
If you have never sought counseling before, the process can be mysterious. I aim to create a non-judgmental space for you to understand your inner world, empowering you to respond more adaptively to your outer world. My counseling perspective takes into consideration your environment and lifestyle. Together, we will explore how your past experiences shape your approach to daily stressors as you learn more effective ways of finding solutions to current problems. Humans are social beings and healthy relationships with others begin with a healthy relationship with yourself.
My approach to counseling is emotionally focused, which means that I believe there is a good reason why you feel the way you do. I also take into consideration the ways in which our thoughts affect our feelings, creating space to reveal alternative perspectives that may shift our emotional worlds, promoting opportunities for more relational and adaptive responses. I aim to meet clients where they are, crafting a therapeutic approach that allows you to go at your own pace and supporting you in growing increasingly more comfortable with being uncomfortable.
Credentials
- College of William and Mary, BA (08), MEd. – Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health and Addictions Counseling (‘22).
- Trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and the Gottman Method
- Experience in both residential addiction treatment and inpatient psychiatric care
I prefer to think of my patients and myself as fellow travelers, a term that abolishes distinctions between ‘them’ (the afflicted) and ‘us’ (the healers)… We are all in this together, and there is no therapist and no person immune to the inherent tragedies of existence.
