Starting October 2023, Brian will be seeing clients in person in Old Town Alexandria and Telehealth throughout Virginia.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about me. I know seeking out a therapist can be stressful, and I encourage you to request a free 15-minute consult to get to know me better. You can email me at brian@relationship-center.com or call me at (757)788-2800, ext. 612.
I practice first and foremost as a Social Worker. This means I am a professional whose discipline is steeped in ethical ideas that all people are inherently worthy of dignity and respect and deserving of the right to self-determination.
Practice-wise, this means I meet each person where they are on their journey of healing and wholeness. I view my clients from the perspective of their life experiences, not because what has happened to us determines who we are but because I believe our experiences do shape who we are. Our life experiences are the lens through which we view the world as safe/unsafe. Our sense of safety then forms how we see ourselves and others and how we treat ourselves and others. This is where great change can be made manifest. Ridding ourselves of the shame so many of us live with lifts not only our self-esteem and mood but also our spirit and purpose. This new sense of dignity and worth is what I strive for, not only in myself but for every person I work with. Trust me, the journey is worth it. I know because I have walked the walk.
As you might be able to tell from the paragraph above, this is hard work. It takes time, it takes patience, and it takes grit. Hard work! The work of digging in deep, creating new patterns, attempting new behaviors, and questioning old ways. I am well trained and experienced to do this work with you and I would be honored if you chose to do that work with me.
In the therapy room, you will find me to be an open and honest guy. I practice relationally, which simply means I am not someone who believes the therapist should be so closed off and private that the client knows nothing about him. It also means that much of the healing work happens between you and me, our relationship, our ability to solve problems, and our ability to effectively talk and work things out.
I live in Northern Virginia but will always be a New Englander at heart. I have two adult daughters, one a nursing student and one an aspiring teacher. I am married to my husband, Ben, and have the privilege of being ruled by two canines whose names are Phineas and Katydid.
I welcome you to reach out for a consult so that we can start your journey. You can email me at brian@relationship-center.com or call me at (757)788-2800, ext. 612.
